In vivo degradation of Viamac occurs by hydrolysis.
Viamac has the major advantage of being a pure polymer derived from Glycolic acid, finely braided and coated with the co-polymers of Glycolide, Lactide, and Calcium Stearate. The coating (GLC366) bonds naturally with the thread, which reduces surface friction and glides through tissue with minimal trauma.
The Coating virtually eliminates ‘chattering’ during tie-down, and the occurrence of knot locking. Precise knot placing is enhanced and the number of knots required to ensure full knot security is less than that required by co-polymer products. The knots snug down an hold fast.
Viamac gives maximum support through the critical first few days of wound support and has a higher level of support until the wound-healing process is complete, then rapid absorption takes place. The loss of tensile strength at all stages is very predictable.
